Root OTA won't install

After the awaited OTA, it won't install on my phone. I was under the impression if you rooted, it would still install and you loose root. I am rooted and it plain won't install. I have tried at least a dozen times. I have tried downloading over wifi, 4g, 3g, It goes to start the install and after 10 seconds the triangle symbol pops on screen and phone re-boots. I tried the root keeper app everyone raves about, no difference. I have the stock rom, nothing else but just rooted. I haven't removed any system apps. I did remove some bloatware apps. Anyone else had this issue? Any tips or suggestions?

I'll check this out when I get home. Could be apps removed. Thanks!

I just remembered that I had backed up the two apps I deleted, the Madden Football and the Golf game. I restored them and tried the Update again. Still no go, Update Failed. Does anyone know if rooting and changing the recovery from Bionic Bootstrap to Safestrap would affect this? Other than rooting, that is the only thing I have done/changed to this phone.

Well, all the tricks that worked for others to get the update to install on their rooted Razr didn't work for me. I finally just bit the bullet and formatted the phone back to stock, It then downloaded the updates to get me current.

Smurfe, Be mindful of stuff your removing in future, the ICS will be coming one of these days. Don't know if removing stuff is what caused your trouble or not, but I did the same only froze them. I had no issue updating after downloading rootkeeper then running it prior to downloading the update. Then installing the update was no problem and just reinstalled the root using rootkeeper. I'm planning on following the same scenerio for ICS. I took a tip from the forum tho and never remove, just freeze.:)

Yeah I guess so, funny thing is though, I did a backup of everything before I deleted bloatware. I didn't change any system stuff, just deleted stuff like Blockbuster, Madden Football and stuff like that. I restored the back up where everything was back but it still wouldn't install. I dunno if I am even gonna re-root. I probably will but might wait till ICS rolls out then look back into it.

I don't own a razor but I guarantee removing blockbuster and madden did not cause this issue.

That's what I thought was strange, I didn't touch any system stuff, just uninstall Blockbuster, Madden, and what ever the golf game is called. I did a nandroid before any stuff was removed as well. I have read on a couple other sites where some said safestrap was their issue and when they disabled it the update installed. I didn't read that till after I went through all the other stuff.

Actually the delete of Blockbuster and Madden quite likely is what caused the problem. There was an update for the Razr (not Maxx) that required your phone be STOCK before it would install - that includes all the bloatware installed and running. Missing or frozen bloat would cause the update to fail.

My phone is not rooted (just got it yesterday) and I immediately uninstalled Madden and Golf. It was a long click and a delete. I can't imagine if they let you delete those apps on stock, it would prevent any updates. They have plenty of other apps on there that they won't let you uninstall, only hide. Those, I think would be the ones that might get you into trouble when updating.

After I uninstalled those, my phone told me there was an upgrade available. No issues.

For me I believe it was changing the recovery from Bionic to Clockwork is what prevented me from updating. I found on other forums where others had the same issue. After re-installing all the deleted apps from backup, I still couldn't update. When I flashed from Bionic to Clockwork and then made another backup, it overwrote my Bionic back up. I flashed/downgraded to the non-rooted ROM and had no issues updating. Dunno why others had no issue here though. I didn't remove any "system" files, just those apps that actually let you delete without rooting. Guess it was just a weird glitch for me. Glad to see others not having any issues though.
