It's big, it's fat, and it's bulky but offers so much protection. I have the Defender (minus the CRAPPY built in screen protector) over my soon to be SOLD iPhone 5 and the device feels like it's indestructible. Can't wait for the boys at Otterbox to get their shizzitt together and release one for the Galaxy Note 3. Still waiting for the Verizon branded GN 3 to land at Best Buy. I'm dying here! Played with a Sprint branded GN 3 at Best Buy today. THE GN 3 IS FANTASTIC!!! SIMPLY FANTASTIC!!!

UPDATE November 13 My Otterbox Defender has been FIRED! It is TOO BIG, TOO BULKY, and simply makes my sexy GN 3 look MORBIDLY OBESE. I replaced it with a case by Caseology. The Caseology cases are superbly constructed and cost $8.49 on Amazon. True, I have less protection, I admit. However, my phone is no longer the HIDEOUS PIG that the Defender had transformed it into. My plan is to avoid major drops at all costs. We will see how my plan works out! Good luck Guys!

One thing I hate the most about a otterbox and a new phone is the cases when they first come out are full price..I am so use to getting them much cheaper on amazon or elsewhere ..but that's the price one pays for wanting the newest hottest toy..

Otterbox rules, period. They may not make the prettiest cases, but I'm more interested in protecting my device, aesthetic concerns are a distant second.

I will wait to hear if the built in screen protector is as awful as it was on the iPhone 5 before buying one of these again.

Why wait? The built-in screen protector will be awful, they always have been. Simply remove it. The Defender itself cannot be matched in terms of protection and sheer strength.

Having that added protection at least partially sealing the device from outside elements is part of the reason I got the Otterbox Defender for my iPhone 5. There are other cases that provide adequate shock resistance for my use. I agree that with an Otterbox Defender I could probably throw the phone at a boulder and have it survive (unless it hit screen first) but i'm only likely to drop it and other cases provide adequate drop protection.

That is true. The cases are virtually indestructible.

I usually put a Zagg or another screen protector on my phone. You're right, the built in screen protector is not the greatest!

I find it incredible that Otterbox has not released either the Defender or Commuter cases for the GN 3. This device is certainly worthy of this class of cases. IMO the Otterbox cases, though a tad bit bulky, offer unparalleled protection for smart phones. PLEASE Otterbox, get these cases to the consumer! Right now, I am using a CRAPPY TPU case on my AWESOME device. Please release the DEFENDER and COMMUTER ASAP! I WANT THE DEFENDER NOW!!!!

It's not like this stuff can just be excreted. Nov 7/8 is the availability date for them.

I don't mean to come across crass but just how do you know those dates? I have read all the posts in the Otterbox social forums from many different people asking for release dates and the Otterbox reps just keep saying they don't have an exact date but expect to see them soon. Their own website says coming soon. Where did you get your information?

Multiple places, some had 11/7, others like the one above, 11/8. I pay attention to that stuff because I need one myself.

Call me old fashioned... but I would rather wait for them to produce a superior case than have them rush to make a case which is poorly executed.

Quality takes time.

Glad I'm not alone in this. I bought a cheap silicone cover and put on a screen protector until the defender comes out. Come on already, this is the flagship of flagships, you'd think it would've been out by now.

I was always under the impression most manufactures have access to non working prototypes long before the phone is released. How else would you explain form fitting cases being available before the phones are released?
Is the Otterbox any more complicated to produce? Yes a little. Design should not take very long, they have been doing it a while.
I guess some companies just move a little slower than others.

i cannot wait for the otterbox to protect my awesome phone, I just wish they had more colors. I will settle for black. how are the built in screen protectors, any good?
