Help Outgoing Email not working!

Hi ALL,

I've had my Volt for about half a year or so and am quite pleased with it. But today I'm having trouble with the regular Email app. I have two e-mail accounts: one with Verizon FiOS (verizon.net) and the other with Google (gmail.com). Since day one with the Volt I have the regular Email app set up for Verizon and the Gmail app set up for Google, and they have both worked fine. Today I was upgrading the SD card from 16 GB to 64 GB (20 bucks at Amazon!) and also fooling around with one of those cheapie "Smart Watches" and its app to send Blue Tooth notifications to the watch. The new SD card worked fine and the watch and its app seemed to work fine.

One of the thing I was testing was to send an e-mail from Verizon to Gmail so I could see the notification on the Volt and the watch and at first the e-mails were sent correctly and I could observe how the watch was working. Then all of a sudden I was getting an error message that the Verizon email was NOT sent. Going from Gmail to Vz worked but Vz to Gmail would not be sent. I swapped the SD card back to the 16 GB and even uninstalled the app that talks to the watch but no emails from Vz. I even deleted the account from the Email app and put the account back in and still I cannot send an email from Vz using the Email app.

The last thing I did was set up the Gmail app for the Verizon account and that DOES work both to send and receive!! But still the Email app refuses to send from Vz. Anybody see anything like this? Any one have any suggestions I could try?

Thanks,
Gerry

P. S. All of the above is via my home (Verizon FiOS) Wi Fi with a very strong signal and fast speed. Also I am not rooted and its whatever the standard version is on the Volt via Virgin Mobile.

In the Email app delete the account again. Then go to:
Settings > Apps > Select the Email app > Force stop > Clear cache > Clear data
Reboot the phone.
Add the account back in and try sending a test email.

Hope that works!

Hi Crashdamage,

Thanks for the suggestion but I thought of that but couldn't do it as the Email app does not show up in the Apps. The Email app was on the phone from the very beginning so I assumed that its part of the Android system and not an independent app. The closest I could do was under Storage clear the cache for all apps and then reboot but alas that did not help.

Do you have any other thoughts?

Gerry

Yeah its listed as stated above see screen.

This may not only be happening on lollipop based roms. Stock KK install with stock email client is currently giving me account authentication errors when checking mail. Says to many login attempts but I dont have it set up to sync regularly.

The Email app must be in Settings > Apps > All (scroll right some). Check there and try what I posted.

Hi Crashdamage,

What a dummy I am!!! I've been in the App settings many times and I know there are options at the top for Downloaded, Running and All apps. But I was kind of "mad" at the phone for giving me a problem and I only looked in the Downloaded apps which of course Email wasn't there. Now looking in ALL apps it was there so I did a Force Stop, cleared the Cache and Data, then rebooted. Going back into Email and there were no accounts so I added the Vz account back in and son of a gun its working just fine now, receiving and sending. So THANKS VERY MUCH!!

After that I wanted to remove the Vz account from Gmail (I like having separate apps for each) and it took me a while to find the place to remove it but somehow I might have tapped something wrong as I got a notification for an invalid sign in and it was trying to sign into Google with the Vz account. I was having trouble changing the sign in back to the Gmail account and I could not dismiss the notification so I just rebooted again and so far everything seems to be working fine!

Thanks again,
Gerry
