outlook.com on android

I'm looking for some updated information regarding the use of Outlook.com on an Android for mail, contacts, calendaring and tasks.

Currently I use Gmail for email and contacts but Gmail Google does not support ActiveSync so I can't sync my contacts, mail and calendar between my smartphone, my Gmail account online and my copy of Outlook 2010 on my PC.

It's been suggested however that if I swapped my gmail account with my Outlook.com account, I can sync mail, contact and calendar between Outlook.com online, Outlook 2010 on my PC and my phone. The problem is that I don't know what email clients on my phone will support an outlook.com account vs. a Gmail account. I know that Microsoft has an Outlook.com client for the Android but I don't know what functionality it offers and how compatible it is with my phone which currently relies on my contacts that are stored with my Gmail account.

What I need is for someone that has and uses an outlook.com account as their sole email, contact, and calendaring on their phone to give me the low down. If you can help, please reply.

I use Outlook.com as my only email now. Mainly because I was on a Windows 8 phone for awhile and I also use Outlook 2013. I am now on Android and still use Outlook.com because of ActiveSync. The Outlook.com app is ok but it seemed to drain the battery a lot. Maybe because I have three separate accounts? Anyway Contacts worked great. It was easy to import into Outlook.com and when setting up on the Android you just select the syncing of Contacts. You can also turn off the syncing of your Gmail contacts.

I stopped using the Outlook.com app and switched to the default mailbox app in 4.2.2 on my Nexus 4. It works great with Outlook.com. I also use the mail widget to create one for each account (three outlook.com and one company Exchange account). Works great.

I actually sync my Gmail contacts and calendar to Outlook 2010 on my PC. You need to install GoContactSync Mod and Google Calendar sync on your PC to connect Outlook to Google for syncing.

I use a custom domain email address for my Outlook.com (web app) and I do NOT want to use the Microsoft Outlook.com app for Android. Can I use the default Android email app, contacts, and calendar to sync these things with my Outlook.com account? Thanks.
