Help Outlook.com

I have been using Outlook.com for nearly a year. It somehow disappeared from my Android phone (Ver 2.2.2).

When I use my phone to access the play store it isn't listed.

All I need is to sync a calendar on Hotmail.com with my phone. No email, no tasks, maybe not even contacts although I am using the Hotmail.com contacts now.

What can I do?

Thanks in Advance
Pete

Yeah, I saw that. Two problems, (1) the reviews and (2) Android 4.0 and up. I am not in the mood for upgrading right now. Too many other irons in the fire.

I also found
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/outlook/to-go

and applied the steps in the section:

"If you’re unable to use the app for any reason, you can still set up Outlook.com on your Android device. Here’s how:"

I can get email and my contacts synced but the most important thing for me is the calendar and I can't get that to work.

I few days ago, I noticed that a contact I created on my Android phone (Nexus 5) didn't sync with my Outlook.com contacts. I'm running Android 5.1 Lollipop.

So I went into the Outlook.com app on the phone and pressed the Contacts and Calendar Sync settings button and NOTHING HAPPENS! WHOA!?

Come to then discover that the Outlook.com app isn't even in the Play Store anymore and do some Googling to find there is a new app called "Microsoft Outlook Preview."

After uninstalling Outlook.com app and installing Microsoft Outlook Preview and connecting it with my Outlook.com account, it appears that the new app does not sync Contacts or Calendar events created on the phone using the native Android Contacts or Calendar app with my Outlook.com account.

And the Preview App crashed frequently on my phone.

How can I sync Outlook.com contacts and calendars with the native Android contacts and calendars on my phone? Before when you installed the Outlook.com app it added that as an account type under Settings > Accounts so you could set up syncing. This new app doesn't add an Outlook account type under settings! Is Microsoft trying to force Android users to use only their app to access their Outlook.com data??? YIKES!

While I still had Outlook.com I would experience the non-syncing of contacts and calendar. All my Hotmail contacts would disappear along with the calendar entries that came from the Hotmail calendar. When this happened, like you, I could click on the two sync buttons and nothing happened. Note, this seemed to happen about once a week to me. Like, maybe when I connected the USB to put files on the phone.

Anyway, I found that if I deleted the hotmail account and added it back the contacts and calendar came back.

If this is truly a google/hotmail pi$$ing contest I may look for a way to ditch them both.

Maybe we should look into Thunderbird.

Ironically the main reason I installed outlook.com (and created an account) was as an alternative sync for some of my work calendars because Google are not wholly reliable. If I find that categories are missing from my calendar I just make the versions synced through Outlook visible and vice-versa (but typically it's been Google who've taken a holiday from a subscribed calendar in my experience).

However, I don't use it for anything else, so have idea how well it syncs contacts as I don't have any Outlook contacts.

@consultant: why did you uninstall Outlook.com in order to test the new one? And did you keep a backup?

What phone do you have? The Samsung Email app can handle calendar and contact sync with hotmail/outlook via Exchange.

Microsoft confirmed the new Outlook app doesn't sync anymore. What they failed to tell me is even though there is no longer an Outlook.com account type on the phone any more, you can use the Exchange account type and use server address: s.outlook.com and then you can sync everything. Why the MS Tech didn't point this out it baffling.

I can get my hotmail mail and contacts to appear on my phone but I can't get the calendar to sync. I am using the email app (icon is an envelope with an @ sign in the flap) that came on my LG phone. Should the hotmail events appear on the calendar app that came on the phone? They all did when I had outlook.com.

They won't go either way. Events on the phone don't show on hotmail and hotmail events don't show on the calendar app. The "Incoming Settings Server" is s.outlook.com. "Sync Calendar Also sync calendar from this account" is checked just like the contacts box.

Any ideas?

Pete, did you get a private message from me the other week? There is a possible solution in there.

The funny thing is that I got an Play Store update to Outlook.com the other day, even though the app seems not to be available to new users any more.

I don't remember getting one. I just searched and found it. I'll give it a try.

Hi all I am fairly new to this but I have a question that there could well be an answer to already.

I have Yahoo email on my phone (Samsung S5 min) but it's not exactly user friendly and it doesn't allow me to see email older than 8th April! I view my yahoo emails (as well as gmail & hotmail) via Microsoft Office on my home laptop but if I download Outlook.com on my phone, it's set up my account but cannot see all the emails that should be in there. I'm a little stuck as to what to do next!

Thanks

I have no idea. I have other problems with the outlook.com app.
I don't use Outlook or Hotmail so apologies in advance if this is in left field - but if Exchange ActiveSync calendars are involved, Team Calendar Sync does a great job.

Doesn't work with free Outlook accounts.
