Outlook Email App

Hi,

I am potentially going to get Samsung Galaxy Note 2 when it comes out BUT I NEED it for a specific reason...

My computer system at work is very outdated and we use Outlook 2003 and the Internet is very limited (only a select few sites are allowed to be viewed). We have only just had external email given to us so I can now have all my emails sent directly to my personal email address.

My question is this:
Is there an app that can sync my Outlook calendar and email to my phone? Bearing in mind my office system is seriously outdated. I will pay what ever, I just need to live my life through Outlook!

The contacts/calendar/notes/tasks bit is easy - just use MyPhoneExplorer - free. An app on the phone and client on the PC. 'Search' this forum for Myphoneexplorer and all the details will come up.

The email is a bit more involved. If you just want to see new emails then you just need to set the standard email app up to check your personal/work (??) email address. You just need the email provider settings such as the incoming and outgoing servers etc.

If you want to sync ALL your email from your PC (for example, I have email going back 10 years) you'll need to get it into the cloud somehow. There is a thread on here about syncing using Hotmail which you should read. There's probably a way to do it with gmail as well.

Hi Dave, thanks for the help.

The problem is that I can't download anything at all on my work computer. Do I won't be able to get te client on the pc. Any other suggestions?

The email isn't so much of a problem as I have been able to set it up to auto forward to my "private" personal email.

It's the calendar that is the absolute necessity. I hate paperwork and don't ever want to use paper ever again!!

Hmmm. Adding/removing stuff from 'work' computers is always tricky. I'd firstly ensure you've got all those angles covered (i.e. what to do/say if the boss catches you!).

You say you can't download anything - does that mean you can't actually add any applications to the PC? Or just that you can't download them from the interweb? If the latter then download at home and take MPE in on a CD/usb drive and you're good to go.

If you can't do that, AND can't sync via the interweb to Google then you'll probably have to look at exporting the calendar from Outlook and putting it on youir sdcard for your calendar app to import. For example, I use Business Calendar on my phone (the Pro version so the free version "may" not be able to do this) and I've just checked and it will import an ics file. I also use Outlook and at least with 2010 it will export an ics file. Not perfect but it will work. I'm sure there'll be little quirks in the process but it should enable you to get most of the way to where you want to be.
