Outlook OWA App

Don't attempt unless you send and receive totally public information...

The reason IT implements restrictions on email connectivity is to protect you from yourself, others and accidents of fate. ActiveSync, GOOD, BoxTone, etc. implement policies that enforce encrypted secure containers and enable remote wipe to protect sensitive information on your device. These technologies enforce security but come with a price of inconvenience, perceived/real invasion of privacy or inaccessibility.

I could get around my organization's restrictions easily but would end up with unencrypted storage of email on my device. If my device was lost or stolen, anyone with rudimentary Google skills could defeat the PIN and access all information on my device not in a secure container including email - NOT GOOD. Any organization with good IT security will disable auto-forwarding outside the organization.

Proceed at risk. If you're caught circumventing organizational controls the penalty could range from a slap on the wrist to dismissal to criminal prosecution depending on your organization's policy.

And don't forget the massive increase in Android exploits that can enable remote access to your device while it's still in your pocket.
