Help Over charging &, Battery Life

I don't get spare time to charge my phone during day time &, I usually plugin my device at night leaving to charge for 5-6 hrs or more. So, charging my phone more than what it needed will reduce my battery life or android has got auto handing mechanism which manages autocut when it knows the battery is full charged.
