Root Overclocking help

ADK1580

Newbie
Hi everyone!!
I was hoping you guys could help me with overclocking my galaxy SI9000.
It's rooted and running Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightly.
So...what's the best OC app you guys can recommend me?
And how should I approach it? I've had my fair share with PC overclocking and I'm fully aware of the risks, this is why I'm looking for advise from you guys :D

Thank's :D

Since you own the original Galaxy S (which is a Hummingbird if I'm not mistaken?) you should give this app a go: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tegrak.overclock

Seems to have great results for some (and not so great for some - it actually slowed some devices - probably too much overclock which their device may not have been capable of). AND your device is well supported by this app. Read some reviews to get an idea of how much overclock Galaxy SI9000 owners have been able to achieve.

Since you already know the risks you can proceed by starting out with little overclocks of 10-25 Mhz. If you feel things are getting unstable, undo the previous overclock and you have just found your maximum overclock for your phone.

Now don't quote me on this but I have heard overclocking phones isn't as risky as overclocking your PC. It may diminish the longevity of your device and use more battery life as a result but still less risky.

Anyways, when it comes to overclocking I will suggest to you like always - Proceed with caution!

Thank's for the advise, I'm already acquainted with Tegrak haha...thing is, it doesn't support my kernel (whatever that is).
From the description I understood that it doesn't support my CM, damn it!!
Such a shame it looks like such a good app...
What should I do?

Heh. Not much of a surprise since Tegrak is one of the most popular OCing utilities on Google Play.

A kernel basically inter-connects the software with the hardware. To get acquainted with the job of a kernel refer to this great article:
Android A to Z: What is a kernel? | Android Central

In short, different ROMs come with different kernels. There seem to be lots of different versions of kernel for each device. For e.g. Stock/OEM ROMs have different kernel as compared with custom ROMs.

Now for your overclocking needs you can try this application next as it seems to have a much better support and success rate (and also higher ratings - 4.7 from 5k+ votes!):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.sineo.android.noFrillsCPU

Hopefully that app will let you overclock your device. Remember to go slow (10-25 Mhz increments at a time to realize your maximum overclock) - And always take it safe as overclocking any device can be risky business...

Ive used No Frills for years now. It has a "safety valve" so that if you over/underclock too much and the phone reboots, the settings will go back to default instead of you gettin stuck in a bootloop so its really safe
