These days you'd not use ext2 though - ext3 or ext4 would be better.

3 and 4 are more robust than 2, & 4 is faster. But the older CWM doesn't support 4 - will convert it to 3. Conversely I think 4 is default in Android 4 onwards.

But if you have 2 and it works, no real reason to change.
