Root Package file is invalid (wits end)

#2.8.1 ROM, Speed Unleashed Kernel, TWRP recovery v2.5 (thanks to PlayfulGod)
This started after updating to 2.8.1. Not saying that it's the ROM but it's just the last major reference point I have.
This has been an off and on again issue for the past several weeks but it's been more ON recently and I'm at my wits end. This happens with new apps or updates, although I have a work around for updates that sometimes works. That involves a TiBu Backup> Uninstall> Verify Backup and then installing the app as new, then restoring the data via TiBu. That process screws with my head because it is a new install, which is what I'm having the most trouble with.

The things I've done.

  1. Nicknamed my device in Play. No affect.
  2. Cleared cache in Play and all services related to Play, rebooted and sometimes this works but not so much lately.
  3. Booted into recovery and cleared Dalvik and System cache. Again, works sometimes.
  4. Changed my device ID in TiBu to a previous ID and even generated a new one. This had no affect.
The other major sign post I can point to, and more likely the cause of this, is when I installed Google Play Black along with a few other Black themed Google products form Android Police.
Google Play Black didn't hang around for long as I let an update to Play install which then wiped the theming aspect of it.
Still, that doesn't explain the on and off nature of this error.

Another possibility is TWRP recovery. I've read that users receive this error after Restoring a backup. Yep, I sure did do dat.


Any and all suggestions are welcome, other than chucking the phone and buying yours. :p
 
I had the Broken out rom and never had a problem with the play store, but I got rid of it when it started to reboot on a regular basis. I installed the latest #2 rom and that's when the problems with the play store happened.

Not only do I get the invalid package file msg, but I have also gotten the file can't be downloaded error 903 message. I've tried everything I could find online. Even tried the VPN apps, but one of those apps said I didn't have the necessary stuff to do VPN on a certain protocol.

I really like #2 rom but I need to be able to update my apps. Any help would be appreciated.
 
You shouldn't have deleted the rom just made a backup and updated the google playstore and the vender file and the market update . . Cause google has updated all the markets to 4. Its not 3.10 no more . You can find these files in any new build
 
ok, I fixed it for the most part, you need Titanium Backup. Go into settings, clean up Dalvik cache. After that is done touch on Integrate sys Dalvik into ROM... I was able to get the google apps without any problems after that.
