Paranoid abt battery usage

Hi guys

Having a unpleaant experience within 10 days of buy Samsung Galaxy Advance where battery went flat within 12 hours, had since (event was 3 months ago) been paranoid with checking the battery status & its temperature frequently. The reasons being, service center can only say that may be some buggy apps caused it without a clear solution; the only thing they did was a reset wiping out all the apps.

At the same time i read in the sticky part of this forum that Apps such as "killerApp" may be doing the wrong thing. Some guru also added that services are the real cause of high usage of battery.

In view of the foregoing, i resort to 1) "Watch Dog Lite" to monitor if i have installed any bugging app 2) turn off many services in "Setting > Application > Running Services". Is this the right path to take?

I also recently experience a phenomum where the screen refused to dim at set time limit eg 30 sec. Being paranoid, i use 3 button to reboot using the 1st option without erasing the apps.

Gurus please comment. Thank you

Were you anywhere different from your normal routine, or doing anything different, the day it went flat? Weak network coverage can run any phone down quickly: if you are on the fringe of cover, the connection drops, the phone starts broadcasting to see whether any basestation can receive it. Repeat that over a number of hours and that will wipe the battery. More perniciously, constantly swapping from 3G to 2G also drains power (so in an area of weak 3G cover your power can drop quicker than you'd expect).

Otherwise, turn off stuff you know you don't need and monitor the rest sounds fine. And avoid auto task killers, as they will only be counterproductive.

Thanks Hadron. I don't think it relates to fringe of data connection cover issue as i am normally not using data connection. The 12 hours ran down happened while i was sleeping probably with all connections such as wifi, etc off.
But anyway good to learn from you about fringe cover issue and your concurrence of turning off unused services, monitor the hogs/bugs & avoid appkillers.

Anything to add about the reboot, does it really help? :)

A reboot may stop a rogue app, like rebooting a computer. Just gives you a clean start.

Fringe cover applies to voice as well as data - network cover generally. But if you were in your normal location that shouldn't be an issue unless there was a network problem. Just have to see whether it happens again I guess.
