Root Partitioning for Apps2SD ?

CAL7

Newbie
Nexus One with Cyanogenmod 6.1.1 (clockwork), getting ready to go to CM7 nightlies.

I am getting ready to partition my SD card, probably 3GB FAT32 and 1GB ext3. Any comments on that would be welcome.

But my real question is about using dtApps2sd. If all apps are moved to the ext3 partition on the SD card, then will they be retained after a wipe? (Seems to me that even if on the SD card, there must be some app hooks needed in RAM that would be lost.)

The apps will remain, unless you tell whichever recovery you're using to wipe to wipe the EXT partition.

Thank you. I have a follow-up question:

To partition my SD card, I plan to do it on my current CM6 functioning ROM. There are a lot of files on the sdcard that I understand and can easily backup. But there are also a lot I don't know where they come from and may be system-related or dependents of some application.

Can I copy all the files to my computer, boot into recover to partition, reboot to CM6 and copy all the files back? Or are there some files that the system or apps will re-create and I shouldn't touch manually?

Also, my thinking is that it will go more cleanly if I transfer all sdcard apps now to internal memory before I do the partition; then use DT to move apps back to the sdcard. Is that best?

Rather than fiddle around, I would download a GParted live cd and use that to re-partition on the fly.

I created a CD and booted into Gparted Live, but Gparted shows my sdcard as all "unallocated". From the phone (and Windows via USB), I see all the files. I expected Gparted to show a FAT32 allocation of 4GB. Is this normal? If it had shown the FAT32 partition, I had planned to resize the FAT32 to hopefully keep the data intact.

This is what I see under GParted:
