Partitioning SD ... Backup APPS?

Hi im new and its my first post ^^

SO im gonna partition my SD card for A2SD using rom manager 4 .. is it safe?

And.. when i partition do i lose all my data? I just made a backup of my phone with MY BACKUP ROOT and it saved evrything to SD.. I copied all files of my SD to computer.. so if i partition.. can i restore my apps by simply copying back files and download back MY BACKUP ROOT to restore?? Thanks for help!
 
Copy everything from SD card to PC, including the hidden files.
Get Gparted on PC and format the SD card (don't use ROM Manager!).
Finally, copy your files from PC back to SD card.
 
Hidden files - google 'make pc show hidden files' or more specifically include what version of windows or whatever your using. May be no hidden files on your card.

Gparted is recommended to use for partitioning your memory card. You will need a lil bit of research to use this probably, it is easy though.

There are files that are flagged as hidden and system file that you will not copy if you do not set Windows to display them. In XP open a folder and then go to tools> folder options and click on the "view" tab. Check the radio button that says "show hidden files and folders" and just to be safe, uncheck the box that says "hide extensions for known file types." If you are on Vista or Win7, then open a folder and on the far left above the directory listing you'll see "organize" click on that and go to folder options, and the rest is the same.

If you are using linux, then most likely a ctrl-H in a file window will do it for you.

GParted is the Gnome Partition Editor. It is allows you to manage storage partitions, create, delete and copy as well as clone entire devices. It's a handy thing to have. You will need to download the .iso file which is an image of a bootable CD. You'll also have to have a way to burn that image to a CD. If you don't know how to do that, then try this out: ISO Recorder

Finally, boot your PC from the CD you just made. Put the SD card into the reader and launch GParted. Be very sure that you are modifying the SD card and not the Computer's hard disk partitions.
 
Oh i know about that.. thought u meant some files only available thru SDK or something.. and today my market showed and update to ROM MANAGER which fixes the bricking in sd partitioning ... is it safe now? cuz GPartition sounds complicated a little.. :P

I still wouldn't use it.

The reason we recommend Gparted is because you are going to make a Linux ext partition, which is best done with a Linux tool.
If you follow a video tutorial, then it is easy.

Most people more knowledgable than me suggest GParted which is the reason i used it tbh.

I know what you mean about it looking complicated though, i used it for the first time a month or so ago but honestly it is a lot easier than it seems. Just read up a little, look at video tutorials on youtube and what not and your fine :)
