Help Partly dead screen?

cjdonald

Lurker
I was using my thunderbolt and pressed down (nothing I would think of as excessive) on the screen when I was unlocking it and the side of the screen went dead. The screen is not cracked and it is still responsive to touch on the dead part of the screen; it's just the image that is dead.

Is this something that is repairable or should I call Verizon or am I sol?

Thanks!

I would say call it in, see if they'll replace it. Just tell them that the side has gone dead. Kind of hard to tell from the picture if there's any hairline cracks under top layer. It's possible it's actually broken underneath, I just can't see it well enough. You might notice bleeding or something if it is, though. And that would be an insurance claim if that's the case, not a warranty replacement. Although, they may replace it under warranty if they don't think it's "broken" broken..

Yeah, go to a VZW store and show it to them. I wouldn't call them and have them send a new phone to you because if they then decide it is physical damage they will charge you full price for the new phone. If it is physical damage you could either try to DIY screen replacement, there is a thread somewhere around here about that. I think there is another one over on rootzwiki or XDA but I am not sure which one, or you could call in the insurance claim and pay the deductible.
