Root Party Time "breaks" our Boost MMS heres the fix

First of all Party Time is a great ROM, and its not either sckboy or superboys fault that MMS doesnt work on Boost. Heres why. I flash about 15 phones a week so this fix is nothing new to me. In fact the only reason I didnt notice it not working was because I dont generally use MMS, but since I bricked my other phone I been testing the flashed phones MMS with the Rush. What let it slip even more was the fact that this is not a flashed phone but a Boost Brand on Boosts Network.

The problem as to why is simple, we are running a port of the Reverb and we have Virgin Mobiles APNs configured. Easy fix right. No. Back in the days of GB and earlier you could configure your APNs right out the system menu, or with a variety of 3rd party apps. Google, however decided for 4.0 forward, that we wouldno longer be able to configure our own APNs. So, heres the workaround I use every day(mainly) and havent had any issues.

1) Get Titanium Backup
2) Get APN Manager PRO(which was at one time free I think) but costs a dollar something now, a dollars cheap to have your APN working and MMS
3) Convert APN Manager Pro into system app
4) Run APN Manager Pro and either configure the Virgin Mobile or create a Boost, regardless add only these settings

Name: BoostMobile
APN: MMS
Proxy:
Port:
User Name: BoostMobile
Password:
Server:
MMSC: http://mm.myboostmobile.com
MMS Proxy: 68.28.31.7
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 00
APN Type:

Now save and enable, your MMS should now work

Thank you :-)
Much appreciated.

I was wondering when anybody else was going to realize you can't send pictures with the Party Time ROM port.

Its a 100% method , the blanks are just that blank....eg where password is a *

Delete out that *

Make it exact enable and it works

Thanks for the fix. I could've sworn I changed out the apns-conf.xml file found in system/etc with ours. Maybe I overlooked it. You could try that also and see if it works

Thanks Shaun john.... you working on some stuff for our phones? Good find even though I've decided not to flash party ROM due to do it not being completed I don't think its worth headache yet ;) ..party on bro

No problem, I've been testing it, and the MMSC I used is different from whats in alot of stock Boost phones, I read this was faster, and I am noticing it sends out as fast as it sends out a SMS, I am in Philadelphia getting 2MBps download speeds on Boosts 3G network

Alright just so others know I had to add this from the stock apns-config.xml to be able to send pictures again.

<apn carrier="WholeSales"
mcc="000"
mnc="000"
apn="WholeSales"
user="WholeSales"
server="*"
password="*"
mmsc="http://mms.plspictures.com"
mmsproxy = "68.28.31.7"
mmsport = "80"
authtype="3"

sckboy will you update the Party Time ROM when you get a chance with the stock apns-config.xml? I know you said you thought you did but just asking for future. You can just use the APN Manager app > Insert and use the settings above if your having problems sending Pics like I was.

Also the stock MNC for Boost APN is 870 not 00 but use either you wish if it works for you. Just saying. All the stock settings are in the
/etc/apns-config.xml file

Thanks!

Mines configured for speed I still Dont know why you've had problems, its shows how little people really care bout MMS cause we been running this ROM for weeks

Just so everyone understands these are modified for faster send times, they've been tested on many phones and if you follow to the letter its like a speed mod for pic messaging

I understand the roms are supose to "boost" our phones but it breaks something to gain something in a sense..are you teamed up with the crew on this rom shaunjohn? More people tackling a project such as our phones would be beneficial for everyone.thank you guys for continuing efforts on the project sorry i didnt get invite to party ;p

I was gonna work on a rom while I was waiting to get my other phones back, but I need the edify_defs file and any changes needed to the updater script, Im good at building ROMs , not so good at converting the fstab into edify_defs....its like I see it, but I can see it multiple ways, and theres only one way it needs to be seen

Sounds like they could use your skill set for sure bro hopefully they let you in on their secret haha and we fix atleast something promising..im gonna make a complete backup of stock when i get home i have a brand new rush sitting at home not even activated. If anything else needed hit me up.

I've been throttle by boost this month but with this setup with shaunjohns settings my MMS works again and my tethering is faster. I'm not sure why this would effect internet speed but it did on my rush..

OK, just tested internet speeds, ....they throttled me way back! must be my imagination!

MMS is working though.. thanks shaunjohn

I cant seem to get this to work @Shaunjohn, can you plz make a flashable cwm.zip for this fix?

i know if you have apex pro launcher (not sure if the free one has it)or nova you can long press the home screen pick shortcuts then activities go down to settings select a drop box will open go to APNs select i mite open or put a shortcut on your screen so make sure a icon can fit on that screen when in that settings area you can enter the correct info i will add some screens in a edit

edit 2 :nvm i tried to change my setting to what shaunjohn listed and when i saved the settings area went blank so to fix back out go back in to apn settings hit the button left to the home button (menu)and reset to default sorry :(

edit 3 ok so i set permissions to the system folder to RW and was able to add an APN for the fields that we put BoostMobile i used all lower case it wouldent let me put shaunjohn MCC or MNC settings but it did let me put what i have in the screen shots and i selected the new apn . i tested it and it worked hope this helped

If you us APN Pro and make it a system app using TB, it will allow you to edit and delete APNs
