Passion CPU will be underclocked. Not 1ghz.

Cite your sources? I am starting to get the feeling you really don't like the Passion. Sour grapes maybe?

Yeah, seriously. Sources please. I'd love a confirmation that the Passion actually does exist.

In other news, it has been confirmed that the Passion will not cure AIDS. What a worthless phone!

Lmao I knew it. This guy is feeling a little sore after hearing about the Passion after he already got the Eris. Maybe he scratched it and can't return it? haha

I think everyone has noticed a sour note on this guys part. really to big or underclocked? i mean if it is around the same size as the HD2 it might be a lil taller and wider then most phones but look how thin it is. with all that face room they have space so everything isnt right on top of each other. also clocked slower? i thought i read at one point a larger CPU may help with battery life because it isnt trying as hard to run multiple apps, loading pages, and searching. i do see that the HD2 is still doesnt have the greatest battery life but o well buy a spare. i am sad however that this phone doesnt cure aids it might be a deal breaker for me lol

So what you are saying is it will only be twice as fast as the Droid (3x the Eris), and have better battery life. Gee, decisions, decisions... Yep, I'm good waiting on the Passion/Dragon

It's been confirmed that an as yet un-confirmed phone has an under-clocked CPU. WOW! Now THAT is news...

It has been confirmed that the Passion will use a snapdragon CPU but it will be UNDERclocked to conserve battery power.

Lots of harassing going on here.... I would say give the poor guy a break, but I don't think anyone would actually be clownish enough to post this. My theory? It's actually a cat walking around on someone's unattended keyboard. Silly cat, there are much more comfortable places to walk around where you won't be annoying people!

Private message to Grimster, no one else read:

Ok, now Grimster, start posting 'meow' a bunch to save face. Good kitty......

Id like to confirm your unconfirmations!

The Acer Liquid is under clocked to 768 Mhz yet it still looks pretty fluid in the video demos out there.
Acer to underclock the 1 GHz Snapdragon – Android and Me

BTW- The Droid is a 600 Mhz chip underclocked to 550 Mhz.

Also the Droid's graphics accelerator (SGX530) is rated at 14 M polys / sec while the Snapdragon is rated at 22 M polys / sec. So it's not just Mhz that makes a chip. Gotta push them triangles!

Even if they underclock it who cares? So it will be 800mhz which will still make it faster then Droid, or Pre or the Iphone. Not to mention with it being underclocked there is less danger involved if private users fool with the chip speeds or for HTC to release a firmware upgrade to unleash it. Its not as if you're going to get your Iphone up to 800mhz without adding a heatsink.

HTC has never been known to underclock a CPU. Their whole business practice is releasing the most powerful smartphones. That's how they even got to where they are today.

They didn't do such a hot job with my XV6800 (Verizon's version of the Mogul). That was a slug!!!

Windows Mobile 6.1 boosted the speed on that phone big time.

The only modification Verizon made to that phone was locking the GPS.

Granted, Verizon has had HTC change hardware in some of their phones, but thankfully Verizon is no longer doing that. Everything being released now is being released exactly how it was intended to be since Verizon discovered people buying smartphones don't enjoy them being gimped.

I agree that 6.1 helped, but it was still slow and crashed a lot. Especially with HTC Emulator on it! Don't tell Verizon!!!

Keep in mind, even if a new HTC phone premiered with a 10ghz chip, there's no android apps or games out there that can do anything with that. Android apps and game for the most part need a lot less power than the Eris has. So yeah, your experience isn't going to be 3x better with a 3x faster CPU. Eris already runs fast.

Wut? Better hardware does make a diffierence. If your logic held true, upgrading your computer wouldn't serve a purpose since everything was written before newer hardware was released. In the real world, it does not work that way. Software and operating systems are written to be felxable and adapt to newer hardware. Sure, it may not be written to take full advantage of the new hardware, but it'll still recieve benefits from it. Applications will load quicker, games will get higher framerates, etc...

If you want a real world Android example, the Droid already proves this. They have compared load times of the Droid compared to older Android phones and to no surprise, applications load much quicker on the Droid. The Droid also was getting higher framerates in graphically instensive games tested on various models.

A lot of people would disagree with you also that the Eris is fast enough for Android. The biggest complaint about the hardware in the HTC Hero line is that it lags when multitasking reaches a specific point. The Droid on the other hand can do much more multitasking before it starts suffering.

Improved hardware does make a difference and operating systems/software do benefit from it no matter of when it was written.

I am pretty excited about the passion. The only thying I am dissapointed with in the specs is the poor video resolution. If it had 720x480 and recorded at least as fluid as the droid then it would be the ultimate smartphone. HTCs virtual keyboad kills droids virtual and har keyboards.

we dont know what its video recording capability is going to be like yet. the faster processor means DVD quality videos are a good possibility.

The spec sheet I saw HTC Zoom 2 (HTC Dragon) Detailed Specs | Technical Specifications | PDAdb.net - Comprehensive Database of PDA, PDA Phone, Smartphone, PNA & Mobile Device Specifications and showed the 320x240 rez spec for the video recording. Hopefully that is incorrect. It ought to have HD recording like the instinct HD then it might possibly be the ultimate phone....

It could be incorrect or it could be that its one choice of rez you have. It would seem odd to have it so low. But also dont the specs make that a GSM phone and not CDMA? Hence not the Passion (i've figured the Dragon was GSM while the Passion was CDMA)?

Correct the dragon is the gsm version, but it is unlikely that they will differ much in overall specs, but lets hope the video gets an upgrade. The max rez I have seen on HTC touch pro/eris/ Hero was 352x288 which sucks.

Stop being a number person. It is not going to be 2x faster than droid clockspeed is not all that matters, if you don't know anything say nothing.
Some tests have shown iphone faster than toshiba tg01 (has snapdragon), in many graphics test.
