Help Password after restart

I have recently upgraded my note 4 to android marshmallow. Every time i restart it/power it back on it asks for my password. It never did this on lollipop. Is this a new feature or just my phone being silly?

Which password? If you have fingerprint screenlock set, with marshmallow it is normal for it to ask for the fingerprint backup password (rather than use your fingerprint) when you reboot the phone, but not when you wake it from sleeping. When you wake from sleep, it does have "backup password" in the middle of the lockscreen, but you can still use your fingerprint.
 
Hi. I do have fingerprint unlock and it asks for my main password upon restarting the phone. Is this a new feature to marshmallow?
 
I guess our posts crossed. Note that your fingerprint backup password does not have to be the same as your Google password or screenlock password although it's perhaps a good idea...

Not sure what you meant by "main" password.
 
I say main but it comes up with a screen where i now have to enter a password if i have restarted the phone. At the bottom it comes up with 2 buttons. One for an emergency call and the other to reset my google password.
 
It never used to appear and just went straight to my lockscreen
 
Yes, it has changed with marshmallow - that is your fingerprint backup password it wants. (and is asking you to reset if you wish - not your google password) Its only when you boot the phone from powered off.

I guess its protection against a thief spoofing your fingerprint with plasticine/putty as has been demonstrated in the tech press. ( I dont see how this could work with a note 4 though, where you have to swipe your finger)
 
Mine also does it when you restart it, not just from powering up
 
Thats fine. Just wasnt sure if my phone was starting to play up
 
In 2022, my android at reboot (and after the biometric expiry period) prompts for the Password string that I set up inside Samsung Pass.
