Help Pattern Screenlock disabled by administrator

RealGem

Lurker
Hi,

I just bought a used (but almost as new) Galaxy S5 mini, and I always have a pattern lock on my phone screens.

I followed the instructions here:
(http removed because forum thought my post was spam)

howtogeek.com/253101/how-to-secure-your-android-phone-with-a-pin-password-or-pattern

...but when I got to the right part, only Password and Fingerprint were enabled. Swipe, Pattern and PIN were all disabled by the admninistrator.

The seller (who's very nice and friendly) says he's a technophobe and his friend set the phone up for him, so he doesn't know how to enable it.

How can I, as the new owner, become the administrator and how do I enable the pattern (and other things I guess)?

thanks a lot

Hi,

Check in the settings of the phone under System->security->Encryption. It could be that the contents of the device are encrypted and this will cause the simpler screen unlock methods to be unavailable. If this is not important to you you should be able to simply remove the encryption. Also, if you have not already done so and are not too far into the setup of the phone, I would consider performing a factory reset on the phone to clear out any other things the previous owner left on it.

Regards,
Eric.

Thanks I already did a factory reset.

Yes that screen I posted was within the enryption. I managed a different way to put the pattern lock on, within display rather than security.
