Paying for a pre-installed app

I have an HTC Sensation on Orange UK which came with the free version of Soundhound pre-installed. I wanted to upgrade to the paid for version, but in doing so the free version is still in my list of apps.

I was hoping that installing the paid version would remove the free one from the list, isn't this how it was supposed to work?

Most likely the company made 2 separate apps (but both features are the same). Difference is one is free+ads and the other is paid. Since they are two apps so you have 2 copies installed on your Android device. You can just uninstall the free app since you got the paid version already. It is highly unlikely a free app has more features than a paid one for the same app. It will make paid customers very angry.

Unfortunately I can't un-install the free version as it is part of the ROM and I would have to root the device to get rid if it!

Well I guess the company has tied down with HTC just like my Moto smart-phones came pre-installed with some other apps. You just got to live with it if you do not want to root the device.
