Alright guys,

Family member has dropped this knacked oldish laptop into my house and asked me to fix it, thing is it will not boot at all?.. power light comes on and thats it no fan or no HDD sounds. he seems to think that the fan has been broken for about 3 months prior to it swtiching its self off, i can even get it to boot in to the bios to try a Linux RD, CPU toast?

he wants it fixing fella?. Do you reoking if i change the cpu and fan could be a change it will work?

If it's a PB laptop, it's made down to a (low) price. the CPU is most likely soldered to the Motherboard. Have you tried an external monitor? My daughter dropped her PB laptop, and the only damage was the screen died. Boots fine with an external screen.

I'm with palmtree on this. First thing to do is pull the HD and back it up. Then as Davdi suggested, hook it up to an external monitor to see if it's a bad LCD or GPU. After that you'll have to open it up to see what you're dealing with. If all the connections are soldered, you have little choice but to replace the motherboard, but that can be tricky finding parts, especially with older budget off-brand models.

have tryed the external monintor, No luck and but like i was saying there is no HDD light or any thing when you turn it on. And i have checked it out and its not soldered to the board. So i could change it and on ebay can get a daft pro in that socket for 15 quid.

Yeah thats what i thought. Well i have ordered a CPU off ebay with a fan, Hopefully it will fix the problem if not then to the spare bucket it goes.
