PC does not see my rooted S3

I rooted my S3 with Towelroot and want to use Kies to sync it with Outlook. I installed the latest USB drivers from the Samsung website and have the USB debugging option checked under developer options, but the PC doesn't recognize the S3.

The Windows 8.1 device manager says "Device Descripter Failed".

Suggestions?

I found the problem. The Samsung USB cable was faulty - it would charge but not transmit data. I plugged in my Harmony remote USB cable and it worked.

Sounds like drivers need to be reinstalled. Make sure you uninstall the old ones first. This program will show you all connected USB devices and previosly connected USB devices and you can point and click to uninstall drivers (I haven't used this program myself). Or you can do it without the program too. That's what I do.
