Help PC Sync and Bluetooth Transfer Issue

I'm basically having problems transfering files to my Nexus 7. I'd like to know if these are normal issues that can be overcome, or if perhaps I have myself a faulty unit...

First issue is that I can't access my tablet from my fully-updated Windows 7 x64 computer. The Nexus says it's connecting as a mass storage device, but the driver goes unfound and unistalled. I understand others have had this issue, and I've seen some say they haven't. I'm currently at a loss.

As an alternative, I tried to transfer via bluetooth from my GS3 to my Nexus 7. They pair fine, but everything fails to transfer. Also tried from a GS2-- same issue. The Galaxy phones tranfer with each other just fine.

I knew I was getting myself into a no external SD card situation, but these are the two things I was counting on to compensate. Relying on a dropbox server through WiFi is not gonna work for me, so I am seriously considering having to give up the sweet tablet. :(

Also-- I understand that OTG mass storage is possible with ROOT access, but feel I'm being a bit robbed if that's all I get.

Appreciate any help,
and sorry if I overlooked some obvious solution. :)

With a similar system, I have no trouble. On whatever used to be "My Computer" (I've renamed it), you don't see the device when it is plugged in?

I've not tried it, but READ of devices is apparently possible via OTG without root; look at other posts here. Title is "Read-only USB storage without rooting is now possible!" and link MAY be good.

Yes-- On my own computer, I cannot get the Nexus to show up. Even went as far as to use a "Universal Naked Driver", which actually did label it as a Nexus 7 in Device Manager. Also labeled it with ADB, so that's not the driver I'm looking for.

Since I've now found the PC syncing to work on another computer, I'm gonna go ahead and assume there must be some conflict with some of the many other USB drivers installed for various other devices, I guess. A fresh install of Win7 on my PC could probably confirm that.

But bluetooth transfers are a dead end. And that makes me wonder how pairing AND USING my PS3 controller will go once I root (which I wanted to be sure I didn't have return this one before I started with that).

I guess the real question is--
Is my Nexus' bluetooth broken..?
I only have hope that it's more software related, since it does pair just fine. Although-- that doesn't explain why others have seemed to not have this issue.

Well, I guess I'll just update the thread with what I've found out now.

My Nexus 7 wouldn't work with my computer because of a driver issue. It kept failing to install the driver. As I suspected previous USB drivers I had installed must have been conflicting, I decided to try uninstalling some until I found the culprit.

I was happy to find the right one right away; the Samsung USB driver for mobile devices. I had installed them for the process of rooting my GS3. After I uninstalled that driver, I plugged my Nexus 7 in, went to Device Manager and uninstalled the "unknown device" that was the Nexus 7. The next time I plugged it in, the proper driver installed all on it's own (like it should).

So that's the PC Sync issue. Hope this helps someone else! :)

But, the damn Bluetooth.... I've realized by now that only some files can be sent. And that there is a notification in the bar that you need to go to and accept the file.

So, as I come to find out, the Nexus 7 is SUPPOSED TO HAVE limitations with Bluetooth transfers. That's not cool. I see custom ROMs that have it fixed/enabled. It that really the only way to actually utilize a built-in component of this thing? Seems like a rip off, to me...

Could anyone tell me what this "feature" is that allows unrestricted bluetooth transfer? Like-- is there an acronym for what the Nexus 7 is lacking out-of-the-box...? I see a lot of things listed in different custom ROMs that I'm unfamiliar with, and wonder if there's a way to easilly identify a ROM that has the feature. I've found "Jelly Belly" flat-out states it's capable, but wouldn't mind some options. Or maybe just a clue... ;)

FWIW - Is there a way to enable BT file transfers without a whole custom ROM...?

My Nokia C3 sees the Nexus 7 - and my Nexus 7 sees the Nokia.
In sending from the C3 to the N7 - it says that I must accept
the incoming file - but nowhere is there a button to push which
says ACCEPT? I think this is prolly a bug, as there is a whole
list of failed file transfers detailing the incoming files which failed
to load! So there's definite communication between the two...
