Help PDF files

I have downloaded a PDF file to Downloads but when I try to open it I am told I have no supporting app. I actually have at least two. Neither can I delete this file either directly in Downloads or via Astro file manager. They say 'some files cannot be deleted'. I am not very technical and am baffled. I have checked for answers but can find no questions like mine.

Mmm

I'm suspicious. Where did you download it from? What was it supposed to be? Is it the size you expected?

Just because a file has .pdf at the end of the name does not mean it is a pdf file. Linux/android does not use file extensions to identify file types, they are just there to make it easier for us all (we are historically) used to file extensions. I would do a malware scan with malwarebytes or Lookout (both free in Playstore) and see if anything is found.

If a file does not have the necessary read/write/execute permissions you may not be able to delete or move it.

Do post back

The last bit cracked it. I later discovered they were actually .doc & .docx files and I've had to download two apps to deal with them. Thanks
