Help Peculiar Sound Beginning Call; Default SMS = GV

2 questions, folks:

1. I get an insanely annoying sound at the beginning of every call and "call connect" tone is NOT checked. Please help...

2. I use Google Voice for SMS but only choices for default are messaging and hangouts. I realize that GV will probably be integrated with hangouts but in the meantime, can anyone help me use GV for example when I use Google Now to text someone, it goes to messaging and I used to be able to choose GV.

Thanks and dial well, all,

David

Do you have a Verizon Network Extender (or maybe a nearby neighbor who has one)? That makes a tone when you connect a call.

You can call #48 from the phone and you will get an audible confirmation when the "call" completes that you are using an extender. (It repeats "you are under network extender coverage".)

Generally you see a little icon flashing above the signal bars that looks like a small house when you are connected to an extender - but not always.

Hey.

Nope, not under VNE though I really do need one in my house. If you have an insanely expensive family plan, can you get one for free?

That "chirp" is still there whenever I make a call -- driving me crazy, may have to go to a corporate store and find someone who has or can borrow a clue.

Dial well, all.

I have no answer but I really hope that Google does something soon with Google Voice. It's a great service, but it's been poorly managed.

I have read that some people are able to convince VZW to give them an extender for free if they have bad coverage at home. It's worth a shot when you ask them about the dialing issue.

Every once in a blue moon the extenders go on sale. I bought mine that way.

So, fixed it by....calling Moto support...very patient, helpful: (800) 331-6456. The steps they sent me to wipe the cache are below. Be careful because you're one selection away from factory reset when in that first menu.

I got stuck on step 5 but with patience it worked and the annoying sound went away; they stressed the wisdom of power cycling the phone at least every other day, something I do anyway, because electronics don't like to be UP 24/7 any more than we do...;-)

Please see the instruction below.

This will remove any temporary files that may be causing the problem, but will not delete your files or settings.

1. With the phone powered off, press the VOL UP + VOL DOWN KEY together + POWER KEY .

2. The device will display different BOOT OPTIONS

3. Use the VOL DOWN Key to SCROLL to Recovery and VOL UP Key to SELECT

Tip: If the device reboots, you may have waited to long to make a selection, you will need to begin the process again.

4. The device will display the Motorola logo and then the Android in distress ( logo with Exclamation mark)

5. Press and hold the VOL DOWN key, then tap and release the VOL UP key.

Tip: You can try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are stuck on step 5, try a force reboot by pressing the power Key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.

6. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear in BLUE)

7. Use the VOL DOWN Key to scroll to wipe cache partition and the POWER Key to SELECT this option.

8. The device will then perform the partition wipe

9. Once the Formatting is complete, press the POWER key to confirm a REBOOT

11. The device will reboot and start the normal power up sequence .

Reboot well, all.

This process is a duplication of what was posted in November at ... Wipe Cache Partition . (You might want to check the rest of that thread (Sticky at the top of this forum) for other useful information.)

I clear the Data Cache Partition every Saturday ... no debate ... just do it.
