pen doesn't open pen apps

Hi,
I'm about to buy the note 2. I have too choices, one is a great deal, from a retailer, box new.
2nd choice is a 2nd hand note 2 bought abroad from somewhere in the USA. It also comes with the box and everything. However, its flaw is that the S-pen doesn't work. It doesn't open the pen related apps, and I'm not sure about other functions. The price is half!

Should I take the 2nd hand and try and fix it?
your opinions please!

Are you sure "Page buddy" is turned on. Find it in Settings, Display.

I'm not sure, but I can check it out when I check his phone. Any other means to see if it's genuine?

I would go with the first one for sure. And if you can get the non functioning one for cheap that would be awesome for a media player.

If you go to settings s pen and check the box for pop up notes to pop up when you remove the spen
