"People" app using a lot of data?

I am using My Data Manager to track what apps are using my data. For the past two months, the top data using app I have is the "People" app...it's already over 1GB this billing cycle, with several days to go.

Does anyone know why this is? Does it have something to do with me doing wireless tethering on a rooted device? Maybe when I do that it runs the data through the People app or something?

I'm on unlimited, but it's just weird.

I noticed that as well. What I believe it is is that People is checking any contact info you have linked on the contacts, like emails, Facebook, Twitter, etc.... and reporting it back to these contacts for contact-specific updates. Sounds confusing?:

Sue Brown is your contact. You have her email, Twitter and Facebook account synced to her People Contact. When the data is on, the People app will search through her info to find updates about her.

I certainly hope that's not the case. Because if it is, there is a good chance I would go over my data limits (if I were on a tiered plan) from that ALONE, with no other data usage.

Hey, I'm on 200 Mb/Month. I manage, plus the People App never does anything from 4G, its only on Wifi for me. Probably because I shut off background data and autosync.

I believe your right. I just checked My Data Manager for the past month and since I don't have any social networks linked to my acct., I didn't even see the" People" app. In my list.
