Per Jobs: People who want porn can buy an Android...

Google is going to run into serious problems with the FCC if they keep allowing porn to be downloaded by anyone, especially those under 18. Its still a new brand so no one is really checking into it yet, but they will eventually. Apple could see problems coming and decided to ban all those apps so there wouldnt even be a question. Personally, I think they overreacted but its not my company and I dont risk being sued and losing millions over it.

As for Apple being afraid of Android. I think its a fair statement to an extent. However, iPhone is still the top dog. I personally dont like them much but its always funny how alot of Android users feel the need to justify their phones. I lost count of how many times I have read something like "even my iPhone friends were jealous and checking out my cool Android phone". You never hear iPhone users have to justify their purchase by doing that.

I agree with your post until the last part. There are plenty of people on both sides that argue and do things to justify their purchase. I mean, you do that on here with your iPad, to be honest.

That's like saying my ISP or Microsoft should get in trouble because I can download porn over the ISPs connection onto my Windows powered laptop. I guess that means Dell should get in trouble also for allowing my laptop to contain the porn...oh wait lets drill down further and go after Western Digital for making the hard drive that stores the porn. It should be up to the application developer to restrict access much like it's up to a web developer to restrict access to inappropriate content.

Well, I know that there are parental filters built into Windows. I am unfamiliar with if there were filters built into the iPhone.

ummm, you really dont see the difference?

Apple runs the app store, they are solely responsible for everything in it since they approve it. Is your ISP or Microsoft approving, licensing and selling the porn products you download? No, they are not. This is where open source and letting anyone put apps in the market can really bite Google in the ass. If people start putting illegal things in there, the FCC can come in and say guess what? This isnt happening anymore and then bye bye Android market. Google needs to get it together and figure out a method that will work.

You mean like how the App Store allows people of any age to download the Playboy app?

Oh wait, I thought they weren't going to allow porn. I guess that's unless you can make Apple a lot of money, then you can stay.

You mean like the PlayBoy app? Of course that must be what you are referring to, since they allowed the playboy app to remain with it's partial nudity, and removed apps that make pictures jiggle, because that is sexually suggestive.

If Google runs into trouble, then so will Apple. However, with all the lawyers they each have, I'm sure that they've thought about this issue a little bit, and are sure they aren't going to be sued.

Apple's move wasn't a moral issue... it was a publicity issue, hence allowing the SI swimsuit app to stay, and, more importantly, allowing the Playboy app to remain.

I couldn't think of how to word what I wanted to say, but this 100% sums it up perfectly!

Ummm... no. ISP's and service providers (such as forums and app repositories) are not responsible for the content therein. That's why forum owners are not responsible for slander (or libel in this case) written in the forums. The posters are.

The same would be true here.

Edited to add: I understand you are an apple fan(atic?). However, as I've stated before, you act as if you are intentionally trying to make Mac/Apple users look unintelligent. I know some really intelligent Mac users who would take offense at this behavior... just to let you know.

It's really not worth arguing with someone who has no clue what they are talking about  If you did have a clue and had ever used or at least seen the app, you would know that the Playboy app only has a few CLOTHED pics, there is no nudity at all. Please know what you are talking about before posting.

Perhaps you should heed your own advice, mbell. Do some research. Ever here of the safeharbor laws?

I'm just going to chime in and say that it would be nice for sexually themed apps to be in a separate category so I don't have to look at them if I choose not too. I don't believe they should be censored but I shouldn't have to look at them either.

And wow, what a wakeup call I got when I looked at Steve Jobs photo . . . when did I get so old!?!?! :o

Actually, they have what's called semi-nudity... at least per playboy's own description.

And insults, only work if you can convince the majority that you are right based solely on your insults alone.

Otherwise, it's foolish.

Just because there isn't porn apps doesn't mean there isn't sites that stream video to iPhones the same as they do Android.

I work in the industry and here is how I understand the rules to work currently. It's up to the provider to support security against underage viewing and who ever is supplying the content. Google would not be considered a "secondary producer", so they wouldn't fall under 2257 laws or other regulatory rules on the industry. Kind of like how Google can't be charged in cases of distributing content that breaks local decency laws even if the person found it through Google.

Now I do see a problem where AT&T/Verizon/Sprint says, "we don't want to get caught in the middle of this so no porn". Honestly the best case scenario for everyone is to keep it all online, and not in a 3rd party App. that way it will just come down to the content provider if legal action needs to be taken. A lawyer could chime on this since they would obviously be the expert, but I've been in this industry for several years and I believe thats how the law feels about it.
