Phantom touchs and dead spot

Do not think there is a thread here for this specific problem so I think I will add it. Yesterday morning my screen started with these "phantom touches". I have the "Show Touch" option on under "Developer Mode" so I can actually see the touches (yes, I have tried to turn off this option to see if it went away). It is in a band across the whole screen opposite the power button. The funny thing about these phantom touches is that they occur in what is now a dead spot on the screen for me. I talked with tier 1 tech support and they had me draw vertical lines using the Notebook app. Sure enough, the grid boxes 5-7 (from the top) were not registering my touch. The dead spot isn't really much of a problem but the phantom touches are just opening apps, sending text messages, changing my alarm app. The phone is next to useless right now. Tier 2 tech support seemed very skeptical of my claims and didn't seem interested in the phantom touches or the dead spot at all. They just wanted to ask about settings and if I wanted to buy a case?!?! They are making me master reset tonight. I hope I can use my phone well enough to back up all my music and pictures before this reset. There are tons of posts around the internet about this same problem. This is just a heads up for anyone else on this forum that might experience these issues. I WILL be receiving a new phone for this. It is absoutely a phone issue and not a user issue. It has been proven through many tests. Thank you all and good luck with tech support!

does your knock on function? I had a similar issue with the same dead spot and lost knock on function. I did not have phantom touches tough. If you go into your nearest corporate VZW store and show them the dead are they will help you get it replaced.

Knock on does work as long as the phantom touches are not happening. They don't allow me to control my phone at all. They actually activate the knock on if the phone is off. I didn't really think about visiting a store. Last time I had an issue like this (Eris) I was on and off the phone with tier 2 tech support in about 5 minutes with a new phone on the way. I think Verizon knows about this problem and is trying to get out of fixing it. The tech I was working with last time actually gave me thier direct line but ignored me last night. Thank you for your input. If they ignore me again tonight I am just going to head to a store.

I fought with LG support for a while. After checking the vzw support forums one of the tech guys there told someone to visit a corporate store or call a 800 number. I showed them the dead area in the notepad app and he got a replacement coming. Just make sure it is a corporate store though, not an independent.

Sounds like a plan. I will NEVER enter an "Authorized Retailer"! They are such a joke...lol Both my very 1st and second devices (about 9 or 10 years ago) come from them and I think I had to get 3 replacements a piece due to activation programming errors.

Hollywood, you are a rock star!!...lol Tried to contact the tech support person last night to no avail and was in the area so stopped in a store. The greeter person was very attentive and immediately went to work to try and get my problem resolved. They even tried to call the tech support person from a verizon store hard line and a company sell phone. He said that he could tell that she actually ignored the calls. Anyway, new phone is on the way with no questions at all! Plus, I got to geek out techy style for about 30 minutes in the store!!! Cheers!
