Phone auto restarts to upgrade Adnroid

Yesterday I was doing some stuff on my phone and it shut down and restarted causing me to lose track of what I was doing.

I have the auto update setting under developer options off and it auto restarted on me anyways.

Is there any way to prevent it from doing this until I do it manually?

look under general management, see if auto restart is checked. also see reset or where it says in area of reset and the like.
