Help Phone automatically migrates into roaming mode

About twice a month, my phone automatically migrates into roaming mode on a Verizon network, if I dial, I hear a Verizon message but I can't call out or receive calls at all. I have to remove the battery to reset. Twice, I have missed paid jobs because of this. It usually happens overnight. HELP!! I live in the hills near San Francisco and only get 1 bar most of the time my own home. Of course, METRO didn't *tell* me that when they convinced me to drop Sprint...which was fine where I live...
Advice?

I think you should set your phone on "home only"
so you don't roam on anyone else but on metro/sprint network. Sprint is supposedly the mystery company that Metro has a roaming agreement with. If you hop on a verizon tower because phone is on auto, you will only be able to text in those areas, traveltalk calls are pricey BUT if you put it in 'home only' you will have metro native and sprint extended coverage and won't have to worry if you're using someone else's tower.
