Phone been hacked?

CAITD1

Lurker
My boyfriend and i were at the races yesterday and when he checked his phone, he had two text messages from two different numbers he doesnt have saved asking "who is this". These were sent only 7 minutes apart, strange. He replied today replying to say who is this, as they had text him first. He then called them for a guy on the other end saying he had a text from my boyfriend saying "will meet you at the bar" which is why the guy replied who is this. The other number was a girl who sent a screenshot showing that my boyfriend sent "who is this" to her first.

Anyone have any ideas of whats going on as he is wondering why people are recieving texts he didnt send.

Hack is unlikely. If they were spam texts I'd have said spoofing was the explanation, but in this case I'd be tempted to contact the service provider and see whether they can figure it out (since it's possible that the problem is in their systems, presenting the wrong number).

What carrier network are you on? Because apparently Three in the UK very recently had a problem, with messages going to completely wrong numbers. It was on BBC news yesterday, but I can't find the page now.

Hum Cricket wireless has a text option free for Cricket customers that you can text any number and write a different number in the send box. I've seen people take advantage of this free online service to play mean jokes on people before.
