Help Phone crashed, lost personal settings and functionality

Hi All,

My Galaxy S has been working fine for 10 months or so, but this morning, when I pressed power button to unlock screen, just the menu and back buttons lit up, nothing on screen. I tried again a couple of times, but assumed it had crashed, so pulled the battery out. I put it back in a few seconds later (maybe I should have waited 30secs?), and when it loaded up, all my personal settings within android had gone (app settings seem OK). The idle screen had gone back to the initial few apps and google bar on screen 1 - background had been retained though.

All my messages and phone log have gone too. All apps are now listed in alphabetical order now, not originally installed, then ones I've installed.

Also, when I click the power button now, it doesn't lock the screen. And when I hold the power button, it just lists 'Power Off', not the flight mode and few other things it used to have.

I've searched the web for similar issues, but had no luck. I've tried pulling the battery out for 30 seconds, no luck.

Being able to lock the screen is my main issue, but if I could get everything back (messages, phone log), that would be great.

I'm on 2.2 Froyo, on O2 in the UK.

Any one know what I can do?

Many thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,
I am also facing the same problem, Its getting crashed Daily. Then I have upgraded the Firmware from GINGERBREED 2.3.5 to 2.3.6.
It works fine for 2Days again it crashed. I did the factory reset and USB Format but no luck. Could you please let us know how do you fixed this issue

Thanks
Jayaram

Hi jayaram - I fixed my phone by upgrading from Froyo to Gingerbread (2.3.3).

I think my issue was something had gone wrong in the firmware, which was just fixed by a major upgrade (ie. 2.2 to 2.3). Maybe a minor upgrade you've done 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 isn't enough to clear the issue.

Take it back to the shop?

Chris
