Phone Dialer

New S8 on Sprint. Hate the fact that the phone shortcut opens contacts. I want a phone dialer and then I can type either a number or contact.

How do I do this? I haven't found any decent solutions except for S7.

Install one of many dialers from the play store. Try them out and see which works best

Kind of strange one must download a dialer app in order to get it the way they want it. I will look at them. Thanks.

I just want the device to go to number pad when I hit PHONE. It's not the difficult really.

In general "phone" and "contacts" are the same app, just different entry points into it. So it might be worth checking the app's settings just in case there's something in there that tells it to always open in a particular view. I'm afraid that the dialer is something that manufacturers usually replace with their own version, so any odd behaviour here is Samsung's doing unless Sprint have fiddled with it afterwards.

Of course on any device I've ever used it does work the way you expect. Unfortunately I can't recall whether the S8's I've played with did this or not.
