Help Phone does not indicate type of missed notifications received.

Just got the Hydro phone and so far I like it BUT I am not sure how smart this phone really is. All my previous non-smart phones indicated exactly the incoming missed calls, texts, and notifications received when I wake up the screen. With this phone on the other hand, I do get some type of sound alert but gives me NO indication of what I received until I browse the phone selections to find out for myself. in addition, there is no beep battery warnings before it goes dead during a phone call. Is there something not set up right OR is it just this phone's capability.

Low battery pops up a message and phone also vibrates and blinks the red LED
