Help Phone is dead, USB port not working, don't know what to do

First of all hi,

Let me explain my situation. This morning I unplugged my phone (HTC One X) from my charger and there was nothing wrong. I came home at about 17:00 and tried to plug it in because my battery was almost dead, but I wouldn't charge. I tried another cable, tried to plug it into a PC yet nothing worked. So I think my USB port in my phone is broken. The bad thing is my, my battery is dead too, so I have no way to recover any data. Does anyone have a suggestion on what to do?
You guys are my last chance,

Jesse

Ever see the movie, The Princess Bride, where the miracle worker points out that mostly dead isn't the same thing as completely dead?

Your HTC is designed to behave as if it's completely dead when more often than not, it's only mostly dead.

If the lack of response is really being caused by some stuck bits in silicon and is only mostly dead, you can still recover it.

Hold volume down and power at the same time, for up to 30 seconds.

If it flickers or vibrates, keep holding it - that's a power reset. It won't harm your data.

Gah!

I've had so many HTCs I get them confused.

OK - the One X.

Hold down the power button for at least 10 seconds.

Volume down and power may work but will put you in the bootloader (which is OK, no big deal).

But - just hold down the power button for a while.

Sorry for the confusion! O.o
