Root Phone is dead

pibeeckm

Lurker
The day before yesterday I upgraded my firmware, everything was working fine. But last night my phone shut down (battery was not empty) en when I tried to boot my phone it keep standing on the samsung logo.

So I tried flashing it again, but it was stuck.

Now my phone doesn't do a thing, when I press the power button. I can't even do a hard reset..

Anyone who might know a solution?

1st: Try holding the volume down + home + power button to get it into download mode so you can try reflashing it.

2: if that doesn't even work, did you try flashing the boot partition? Because if you corrupted your boot partition then I'm sorry but it can't be repaired.

Edit:: By "did you try" I don't mean try flashing it, I mean did the firmware you tried flashing contain a boot partition?

I know a solution, I can bring your phone back alive. Just follow these steps:

1) Download a clean XXJPF rom from here www.SamFirmware.com (<- click on it) and set ODIN ready to flash your phone.
2) Get out your battery, wait 5 seconds, put it back in.
3) Use this combination to get in recovery mode: VOLUME UP + VOLUME DOWN + HOME BUTTON (= Big button in the middle) + ON/OFF BUTTON. And keep holding this till you see the brand of your phone (ex. I5800).
4) When you're in the recovery screen now, you have to use volume up and volume down to slide up and down, and use home button to confirm your choice. Where it's written "do a factory reset" and "wipe cache partiton" you click on it (with home button).
5) If you're done with that. Shut down your phone (you can pull out your battery if you want)
6) Keep holding ONLY Volume Down + Home button + ON/OFF. And wait till it shows you the "download" screen.
7) Connect your phone to your computer.
8) Flash with odin.
9) Have fun!

Notice: You have to wait at least 5 minutes at the samsung logo (because it's the first time). Also NEVER pull your USB from your phone or computer out before ODIN says "PASSED". These notices are very important.
Just be patient.

Hope this helps

:( I had a really bad feeling about this pibeeckm. Do you know how to use adb? If so, run these commands for me:

first, plug in your phone while it's stuck in the bootloop on samsung logo.

then run the following commands:

adb shell

paste the results of that here.

edit: if you get an error on the "su" command, continue with the mount command and paste the results.

The problem is, after the failed flash, it isn't booting at all

so no bootloop etc...

I think it's hopeless, but I will give at a try at the shop to get a new one, I have been calling for the last 2 months wth problems so this is 'just a regular problem, not caused by flashing'

maybe they'll buy it..

When will the official 2.2 firmware be released, so I can say I was upgrading and than it got stuck ?

April 2011 is when it's supposed to be released. Just act innocent and completely clueless as to what flashing is :P and if they deny you, you could easily argue it.

Have you tried charging your phone, does it at least shoiw the battery sign?

No it doesn't show the battery sign... So I think it's completely lost.

Yeah, it sounds bricked to me. Whenever you're going to flash a firmware, always check inside that it doesn't contain a boot.rfs partition. Cause that's when things can get ugly...

I looked inside the archive of the firmware but there's no boot.rfs..

That's really bizarre... Cause what you seem to be experiencing is a boot partition error... And usually that can't happen unless you try to flash a boot partition... Hmm, How about you take the battery out, leave it out for 1-2 hours, put the battery back in, and try to turn it on.

I know it sounds really stupid, but maybe the phone is stuck in a bootloop and with the battery in it's stuck in that position. So by removing the battery for a while, you'll let all the power drain, turning the phone off for good, then when you replace the battery hopefully it'll kickoff from the regular boot sequence.

try to press
volume + power + home button.
a downloading screen should appear.
then you will be able to redownload the firmware again with then odin multidownloader.

For those who are interested:

I got my phone back, working but on 2.1 firmware. I didn't had to pay anything so it all worked out good for me.

I think I will wait untill the official release go upgrade my phone..

Anyone knows when this is for Europe?

Anyway, thanks for all the replies en the help

Best regards

i have same problem only i can see it charging it shows me the battery ... when i press volumes both + home + power on to get into recovery mode it brings me a screen and tells me Multi-CSC error /dev/block/st17 it advices me to get into UI menu for recovery and reboot. but i cant do that...

i can only get into download mode .. and no matter what rom i try to flash i get that CSC error. what can i do??

EDIT: I FIXED IT while i was typing this post... i donwloaded the same firmware i had XXJP8 froyo and flashed it with odin and it bootit up into froyo homescreen OMG im so happy .... maybe you can flash same firmware you had before you bricked yours ... if you remember the last working rom you had. try reflash that. might work i think the bootloader got messed up in mine.

Hey Guys got one problem here a little bit similar to that of pibeeckm's instead I was flashing CM 7.1 alpha on my Galaxy GT I5801 and I could see my Battery charging but can't Hard Reset it or use Power+Home+Volume keys.
Few days earlier I had flashed Kyrillos ROM and then multibooted it to use CM but unfortunately something else was waiting for me.
ODIN flashed it properly after which I disconnected the device but the screen was stuck with the android skating on a board and I was seeing it for more than 40 mins which I felt was abnormal.
But still I didn't wanted to do anything that could ruin my phone so I kept it still for a night and saw that the android was skating all night.
Atlast I got no other option than asking for HELP.
You guys are the only source of help at this time and since I have rooted I don't think even Samsung will be interested in solving the issue.
Please help guys.
I can give more details if required.

So i found out where I made the mistake.
I forgot to wipe the data after flashing but now I can't get into CWM nor make a Hard Reset.
Is there any choice for me?

And I also found the solution. In all my previous attempts I used to HARD RESET while my phone was connected to the pc for charging.
However in this attempt I disconnected it and tried once again
and voila!!!!!!
the recovery screen was in front of me.Wiped the data and everything flowed like a river.
I am very happy now.
I hope this would help others too.
