Root Phone is lagging

Wow good looking out on holo launcher guys... I found my new home app til we get ICS (I have nova prime for that). Its slick, smooth and most importantly it hides apps in the drawer.

i get some lag but not all the time running go launcher ex. gonna check out holo.

anyone have a good calendar and contact app that works with exchange? prefer the contact app to let me assign ring tones to groups, and when i create a contact to set it up with my exchange account.

Just put the free version of Nova on my tablet..... pure awesomeness, love it

ok i've had enough of this lag talk. If you guys really and truly want to eliminate ALL lag whatsoever! then get TSF shell. If you get lag with TSF then return your phone because I've used TSF shell a lot on my spectrum and i've never seen it lag once. Yea, it cost 16.80 but is worth every penny!

I've got tsf... It's way more than I need and I think others might agree. All I need is a hone screen for light widgets and an app drawer that allows me to hide apps. Holo is doing well, but I saw it hit 80mb memory use yesterday which is concerning. Zeam is the lightest but can't hide apps in the drawer.

i dont see why you say it has more than you need. What "more" does it have? I'm failing to see what you mean by that. my point is just if you want to get rid of lag then use TSF. It's the only launcher I've used that is 100 percent lag free.

All the screens and features. I dont need a world clock and dont care for the tsf calendar. It looks cool, but its overkill for me. I will say, though, that its more fluid on this phone than any other I've used it on.

I've never seen the world clock, and nor have I seen a calender widget. Actually, tsf doesnt have a world clock or calender widget. I think you are referring to SPB shell which has both of those. SPB does come loaded with screens on the first load but you can erase all of them. I'm actually surprised you would even make such a statement mrB since it's very easy to configure SPB any way you want. It just comes loaded with all that stuff to show you what it can do. But again I think you have SPB and TSF confused because TSF doesnt have a world clock or calender. But you are right that SPB runs smooth on the spectrum. I used it for the first few weeks I had my spectrum and it also doesnt have any lag.

OHHHH I remember TSF now. I have a beta copy and was messing with it. You're right, there's no lag and it's smooth, BUT, it's a huge RAM hog. After 5 minutes, it had 43mb allocated, which is much more than other alternate home apps... and IMO, it's more than should have been taken, since I hadn't changed anything... just played around. But if you don't mind a chunk of RAM being taken up, it's pretty smooth and fluid.

i like holo launcher as well and used it for a couple weeks recently but it's just not as smooth as it could be yet.

I'm on holo right now. Getting some lag on the app drawer, but overall it's performed the best so far. Go is extremely laggy on my phone.

Just checked my RAM usage....freaking facebook app....76mb of ram!!!!

Go - 32mb
Go Notification - 12mb
Go SMS Pro - 17mb

Those GO apps are all separate apps (for those that are not aware)

Is there an app or a hack that can be done to shut an app down and have it stay down until clicked again....yeah....I know Android's thought process, "once it is running in mem, it is easier to start and blah blah..." I could care less.... A one time hit is better than a constant hit...

I don't want to get another lame app killer, I want something that kills the app once and for all until I click it again to start it.

the only thing you are going to find in that category is v6 supercharger. It's a script though, not an app. I used it alot on my droid charge and it really improved the performance. I've experimented with it some on my spectrum but I didn't notice a difference really. But I didnt try all the settings. It has quite a few different configurations you can use.

v6 supercharger is your only option though.

I was feeling in an iPhone mood so I got iLauncher and because it is widget free seems to be running well. It is missing a lot of functionality and I'm sure I'll get tired of it but it's very smooth.

I looked at TSF but I don't want/need a 3d launcher. I want one like Go Launcher that is less laggy! ADW Ex is good but a bit boring I think.

I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in here. sorry imu I gotta suggest it ! ss launcher is my favorite. you can do everything you can work lpp and go but runs way way smoother and the total app size is 2.17mb. it throws most people off seeing the huge words at first but you can resize them out use icons as well. I've had no lag whatsoever with as and recommend it whenever I can.

Yea, I access FB through my browser (Maxthon) to avoid that resource-wasting app they have.

You can set up memory profiles in Rom Toolbox, but it doesn't kill things app-specific... it does it when ANY app gets to a certain size. Of course, unless you're playing a game like Osmos or watching Netflix, apps shouldn't get higher than 35mb. Browsers can, especially when you have multiple tabs open, but they don't always get that high.

It's odd that you have GoSMS in memory. That's my app of choice, but it's only in memory when I send/receive a txt. When you close it, do you use the arrow button to close it or do you use the 'home' button?

Just saw your post. I was in irc but was to tired to sit at my desk so I laid down in my bed and played stickman golf. Building my new shop is really wearing me out.

maybe I'll try ss again one day but for now I'm rocking tsf. I can even underclock my phone to 1GHz and use the conservative gov and I still don't get lag. Plus I'm really liking the latest updates.

It's funny you should mention underclocking... I find my phone runs smoother if I underclock at 1.2 and use lagfree.

Probably just used the home button.

why does everyone care so much about ram usage. Android knows how to handle ram and if you need it it will be opened up for you. The ram is there to be used.
