I'll have to say this is one of the more interesting "features" I've seen so far. It's now happened to me twice, the phone changes the normal beep tone I have as my Notification sound to a certain mp3 file on my sd. Both times it has been the same mp3, guess my phone likes it for some reason. 
It's weird since the file isn't in the "Notifications" folder, and the tone I'm using isn't even on the sd card, it's in the phone's memory. But somehow the phone has managed to find the particular mp3 file, and set is as the new notification sound.
I just hope this doesn't have anything to do with the corruption problem I had with the previous sd card...
