Help Phone keeps resending old texts

So my friend keeps getting an old text from me over and over again, multiple times daily for the past month and a half apparently. Does anyone know how to fix this?? I've cleared out all of my texts and restarted my phone and he still gets the text. I'm using the stock sms app and there's no undelivered messages showing.

Did your friend do the same on his? Are you or your friend using multiple text apps or notification apps that may be sending text until a action is taken so it knows it had been read? Anything that would need an action taken such as reading or responding to the text before it will stop notifications?

I only use the stock sms app to avoid crap like this. I have done a hard reset on my phone and it's still happening so I'm assuming it's something on his end, but he refuses to believe it's his phone that's having the problem. I did my part so I'm no longer worried about it. Thanks for your help though!
