Help Phone losing all WiFi passwords

I'd really appreciate some advice from you guys out there. Twice in the last month or so (have had my S5 since late April) my phone has lost all of its stored WiFi passwords. I have no idea what caused it, but it's a real pain in the backside going back to all my friends and asking them for their passwords again. Now it's done it a 2nd time I'm compiling a document that records my passwords in case it happens a 3rd time.

Anyone out there who can suggest what might have caused this and what I can do to to prevent it happening? I am running KitKat 4.4.2 unrooted with build XXU1ANG2. Neither of these incidents coincided with any firmware upgrade.

Thoughts? Thanks all.

I learned many moons ago, back in about 1978 to record all passwords in a document because invariably things go wrong.

Just last night, I had to reimage my wife's laptop to the Last Known Good Working Version. Microsloth pushed a security update onto her laptop and it locked up tight as a banjo string. Never to work again...... until I reimaged it. Now it will Never Update Again.....

but, back to your problem. Write everything down and store it on the "cloud" somehow. I use Evernote because it syncs every device I own to the same exact Notebook.

That's exactly what I'm doing. Just wondered though if I can do anything to prevent the phone losing the passwords?

As for it loosing the passwords, something had to trigger that event. Finding the source of the trigger might take a good bit of sleuthing.

Do you have any macro driven apps running that work with WiFi signals?

I have one more thought, maybe there is something in the Partition Cache that has a copy of previous or false passwords? Just for grins, clear the cache. Can't hurt, the worst it will do is occupy some of your time doing it.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Sorry, I'm no techie. What is a macro driven app? What even is a macro?!? How would I recognise one?

REF: macro driven app;
that will only occur IF you have installed a macro oriented program such as MacroDroid which is very useful for a lot of things.

It would seem though that is not the case for you.

I just reviewed the OP's post and suggest that you install Kies 3.0 and make a total backup of your phone. With that, you can restore the WiFi settings in a heartbeat if they suddenly disappear.

I have done that on 3 different occasions myself when I had lost passwords and needed them restored. In my case, it was always Play Store loosing stuff.

I would just do a System Restore, not the apps, or data, or pictures. Only takes a few seconds and it fixes the problem every time.
