Phone not connnecting to pc

when I plug my phone up to my laptop, it only charges it. What I really want to do is transfer sum files, but it seems as if they're not syncing and neither my phone or computer "picks" up on each other. It doesn't give me the options to do what I want to do. It jus charges and that's not really what I want it to do

On your phone go to settings and find the PC Connection setting. In there you can select how your phone connects to the laptop. Hope this helps!
