Help Phone not receiving text messages

amp123

Lurker
It's worked well for the past year and a half but sometime between yesterday morning and tonight it stopped receiving text messages. I'm pretty sure I didn't add or remove anything or change any setting in that time. It's a Motorola Atrix, not rooted or anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Just FYI to anyone reading: the problem solved itself after 3-4 days. Unfortunately I didn't receive the texts that were sent to me in the time it wasn't working.

Did you find out what caused the problem?

Unfortunately no. I was just sitting around a few nights ago (Tuesday, I think) and I got all the texts that were sent to me from Sunday to Tuesday.

I know this is 1month old....
but this recently happened to me too (unrooted, AT&T US, v2.3.6). I could not receive text, but I could send text. Weird? Yeah, I know.
I was temporarily using Google Voice in/out until I finally gave up (after searching the web for a fix/solution) and reset my phone.

The reset work - but then it was like starting all over again (rebuidling all the apps and customizing them all to my liking). I just can't remember what clock/date widget I was using before, LOL.

So you never got to the bottom of what was causing this either? I know this is an old post but the issues haven't changed ;)

IMO it's difficult and/or a long process to debug and root cause the issue by one's self, especially when most rely on the phone for frequent use - which is why I had resorted to just resetting the phone rather than looking further for fixes to the issue. There seems to be so much about the Android OS and how each app works within Android that, again my opinion, it could possibly take longer to troubleshoot than to just start from scratch - again considering how much I relied on my phone at the time.

My guess is that maybe an app's setting conflicted with the ability of the phone to process incoming messages - which isn't saying much. But whatever the mechanism if the phone to prices incoming messages is where I'd start investigating had I had the expertise and time :p

I recall after the factory reset, all the queued incoming text messages started pouring in. For about 5 minutes my phone was receiving all the texts I didn't get for about 2-3 days (reason for so many texts was I subscribe to twitter via SMS). I think it was skiing the lines is 250 or something :D

Thank you for that prompt reply! Wasnt expecting that, but it came as I am this minuite fighting with this B*@#!! trying to get my last mms messages-- these messages are becoming quite the pain!!

I have straight talk as a provider. I ran into the same problem not being able to send or receive text messages. This is what I did. On your dial pad dial. *#*#4636#*#* a screen will pop up with 4 options. Select phone. Scroll down to bottom and refresh. If an error comes up you will have to find the correct SMSC number for your provider and enter it into that field. For straight talk with ATT tower i will used +13123149810 and got mine up and working again. Straight talk support had no clue! Probably this number will work with any provider that uses att towers.

My ATT phone wont even let me enter that *#*# number, as soon as i type the last digit, it just goes back to the last number i called. I wonder if there is an alternative way to access that SMSC ....hmmmmmm
