Phone number backup with Gmail/FB/Hotmail

Broke my screen, needed to replace the whole LCD (even all I broke was the glass top) so I needed to backup my phone before taking it to the service centre for the screen repair. Went through such an ordeal to manage to backup (without rooting) only photos and contacts. Photos by Bluetooth on my PC, contacts by syncing with Gmail and FB.

I asked the Samsung service centre guy if ALL phone numbers are backed-up on Gmail even for those who do not use Gmail. He said fine, except the hotmail. Back it up on hotmail (so I did) and open my hotmail once I got my phone back. That's all. So I did. I opened FB, Gmail, and Hotmail and Whatupps. All my contacts (phone numbers) were back, or it just seemed.

Turned out by receiving SMS from my very best friend with unknown number I found out not all were backed up.
Including few significant phone numbers I need to use daily, I realised I lost many!!
FB, Gmail, Hotmail only backed up their email contacts and didn't backup all the phone numbers!!!!!!

WTF?!?

Phone function, should primary be a phone function, correct?
Smartphones or stupidphones or whatever!
What, they backup emails but NOT the phone numbers??
What's wrong with the world now???

So is it the case if your friends (not you) are not synced their phone numbers to their Gmail or FB, you don't get their phone number back??
However....... it is indeed strange that I got my dentist's landline number backed-up through Gmail... Hard to think the dentist synced their number with... Gmail??

What is the problem?
