Root phone number not updating

Hey All,

I've got a rooted droid incredible that hasn't had an OS update in forever. It's running the stock OS. The phone is constantly prompted for a system update from verizon. I recently changed the number and the phone is not taking the new number. I am not a wiz at this stuff and guessed my way through the root process. Info on the phone is:

Android version 2.2
Software number 3.26.605.1

Has anyone run into this issue and know a way to get the phone to take the new number? Would installing a custom rom fix this? I appreciate any help!

Take a new phone number? Dialing *228 and using the activation option should put the phone number on it... Or may have to activate it through the Verizon wireless website.

If you are trying to put newer software on the phone(gingerbread or above) there is plenty of useful links in the root guide stickied above

Great, thank you! I feel pretty stupid now actually. When I changed the phone number from the online account, I just assumed the phone would recognize the new number automatically. Apparently not, and the *228 activation immediately solved the problem. Thanks again!
