Phone randomly deletes all SMS message threads

Today I got a text, opened it up, and all I got was an empty list of all my messaging threads. Everything was erased. Does anyone know why this would happen, and if there is any way to recover the texts?
 
Ok,OK, kidding. Actually this bug has been reported by others. First question: do you use Handcent or ChompSMS or the stock app? Second, I don't know about getting them back but I use an app called "SMS Backup" that sends all of your SMS to your Gmail account so it's very handy for keeping an extra backup of SMSs.

I think if your search for this isue in these forums a bit too you might find some more helpful answers. I have definitely seen some threads on this before.

There are no answeres butt if you search you'll find a post by me about this subject and a link to the android bug page where you can star the issue and comment to google letting them know this bug is not something ti fix later on.
