phone regionalisation

Hi Guys,

I'm planning to buy an unlocked HTC Incredible S and so far there are two options: one from Expansys UK which can deliver the EU version and another from Germany (Handyshop.de).

The price of the one sold in Germany is much better (aprox 60 Eur less than the one from UK), however my fear is that I could get a phone that is stuck on German regionalisation (not that is anything wrong with that, but I prefer the English UK settting).

Can you recommend some basic checks that could help me indentifying the phone's region exactly? So far I emailed to the German website and I'm waiting their answer.

Thanks!

PS: I just found out that HTC sell the same products in the whole EurAsia market, meaning that there shouldn't be any reasons for worries... is this correct?

I believe HTC sales the same phone to all regions/areas. When you boot the phone up that is when you set up preferred language etc. Only time the phone would vary would be if it was gong to a specific carrier then you would have their bloatware/apps.

I just bought one from Amazon.de.
The regionalisation was german 'out of the box' but during first boot setup it offered me a choice of languages which went with my SIM. One of them was English (Germany) which is exactly what my situation is, so I chose that.
I don't know if a UK sim would have offered English (UK), or if this was just down to the phone.
Other things I've noticed :
  • The default google is google.de (But that could be location based).
  • Some app (I can't remember which I've tried lots) failed to install because theycan't cope with the Locale. Setting it to Deutsch (Deutschland) fixed that, but I just uninstalled the app.
  • It's a nice phone :D
