Phone restarts and forgets date/time

So recently my 8 month year old Moto G3 has started to randomly reboot, and forget the time. So far it has happened twice, didn't think much of it first time, today it has happened for the second time and I am starting to be concerned with it.

From past experience this is a battery issue. But every Android device I have had seems to have this issue. Why? Is it just an Android thing or is it a battery issue? I have always used an official charger. I am running Android 6.0.

I've never had that with Amy previous Android phone but Moto Z Play did it a few weeks ago. Maybe a Moto issue.

Did you Wipe Cache Partition deleting all temporary data and not touching permanent data, settings, or installed apps?

I between times I have so that might have been why it didn't do it again.

I can't even remember having a smartphone that I have to set the time again after a reboot.

Assuming this is an un-root-ed phone ... my approach would be ...
Wipe Cache Partition

if it happens again
Wipe Cache Partition
Run in Safe Mode

if it happens again
Factory Data Reset

if it happens again
Hardware problem ... exchange phone.

Does this phone have a SIM and phone service and is it set to get the time from the Network in the Time settings?
