Help phone rings, goes into speakerphone mode

I've noticed recently that when my HTC rings and I answer it automatically activates the loudspeaker. Has anyone else had this issue?

I think it happens when I've just listened to music.

So I will be playing music then my phone rings. I unplug the headphone and answer the phone and then the loudspeaker is activated.

Any help would be great

what steps have you taken to troubleshoot?

here are some suggestions:

reboot the device by pressing the vol up plus power button until device restarts
untick fastoot if its ticked


are you rooted?
did you buy this phone new? used? are you the only owner? just trying to figure out if this phone has prior owners to see if it has a previous life before you got it.

could possibly be a rogue app that needs to be uninstalled or updated.

could be the physical headphone port is damaged/has debris in it.

I've not really done any troubleshooting yet, I was more curious if other people had this issue.

This is a refurb. My previous HTC One had a faulty camera but was out of Warranty but HTC replaced it with a refurb which had a very nice camera this time.

It's only happened recently, perhaps I should try a reformat then.

Hi drumlegend,

You could try 'wipe cache partition' first - it only takes a couple of minutes and doesn't affect your data or settings.

I haven't experienced your particular problem but a cache partition wipe has sorted similar 'odd' things for me.

Wipe Cache Partition


Before booting into Recovery, ensure that fast boot has been turned off:


1. Tap Menu


2. Tap Settings


3. Tap Power


4. Uncheck the box for Fast boot.



Once fast boot has been turned off, reboot into Recovery to wipe cache partition:


1. Power off the device

2. While holding down the Volume Down button, press the Power button. The device will boot into the bootloader which is a white screen with 3 Androids at the bottom screen.

3. Using the Volume Down button, select RECOVERY

4. Press the Power button to select the option. Device will reboot into a black screen with a red exclamation mark in a red triangle atop a device.

5. Press Volume Up and Power button to get into the Recovery menu.

6. Using Volume Down button, highlight the Wipe cache partition option.


NOTE: Be sure that Wipe cache partition is highlighted. Do not choose Wipe data/factory reset as this will result in loss of data!


7. Press the Power button to select the option

8. When the process, is complete, ensure that Reboot system now option is highlighted.

9. Press the Power button to select the option and reboot the device into the OS.


Note:- I found that the reboot in step 4 takes about 45 seconds to complete.

your issue is not common for sure. its one of those rare glitches/gremlins that run amok inside these tiny computer phones. I see questions like your on this forum all day long, just insert a different glitch thats random and unexplained into your sentence.

for example, ive seen someone post here their phone rings then goes into CAR mode (http://androidforums.com/htc-one/757058-rings-its-own-then-goes-into-car-mode.html)

being that your device is a refurb, that explains things better to me. since your device IS used, it could have physical issues with the headset port (could be debris in the port, loose/faulty port) or some other damage internally, such as water damage.

since this phone is NOT new, we dont know the history of it and how it was treated prior to it being "refurb"-ed, so a full factory reset is recommended.

if, after the factory reset, the problem arises, its time for another replacement.
