Help Phone sending text messages by itself

So about a week ago I signed up for a domain name through godaddy. I neglected the private option to save a little money and in the past it hadn't been an issue, but this time was completely different. I started getting at least 6 or 7 phone calls, texts, and emails a day. They were all either solicitations or complete scams. At first I summed it up as stupid mistake, switched the domain to private and it started to slow down. But then just a few days ago I noticed my phone had sent two text messages and made a phone call on its own. The two text messages read "I'm in class." and "I'm in the movie theater." Sent right after each other. The phone number the call and texts were sent to was a totally random number I'd never seen before so I googled it. Turns out many other people had received spam phone calls from this number shortly after they had signed up for a domain name publicly. My experience was even stranger because my phone was contacting this number on its own. What was even weirder is the number is also listed as a fax machine for a random plumbing company in Ohio. I also started noticing weird noises on a phone call I had with my Dad that same day.

My phone has been up to date so its not vulnerable to Stage Fright and I ran antivirus that came up with a clean search. I talked to Verizon and the lady I spoke to had never heard of anything like this before and suggested a factory reset. I did that and nothing weird has happened yet. I have received one other spam text.

Now, I am totally paranoid when it comes to my phone. I don't click any solicited links and never download anything not from the play store. Could it still be possible some one hacked into my phone just by sending me a text message? Is there any other way to explain the weird behavior from my phone? Could I still be at risk?

I don't think this is a device specific issue. But this is weird and have not heard of this before. I'm assuming when you setup your Domaine through GoDaddy, that you registered with your mobile # ??

If yes, I would take a stab in the dark, and check with their Tech Support, to see what they say about it. They may have an answer, and also check the logs to see if any other IP address logged into your Domain to do any editing on your account Just prior to the Domain setup, did you install and new apps from the Play store ??

When you have a call coming in you have the option to text the person instead of taking the call. There are a bunch of predefined options of what you can send. I'm guessing that you got a call from this number when the phone was in your pocket and your leg chose to text one of those options. It's very easy to accidently click it. I'm guessing your leg also called the number back.

Hmm no apps from the app store either actually. But after reading andMego's reply I believe thats probably exactly what happened and I'm relieved. Thank you!

This same thing has happened to me. Last week I got about a dozen or so robo calls and texts offering to give credit repair to someone named chuck. I replied asking for them to not contact my number again and the calls stopped until last night. I received one more text, so i blocked the number. This morning, my phone sent "I'm driving." to a random TN area code number (I live in TN). I would really appreciate it if anyone has more info/solutions on this problem.

I forgot to add that this text was sent while my phone was sitting face up on my desk, so it is not possible that I butt replied a call or anything
